Totem Acoustic Tribe Tower loudspeaker
A totem pole is narrow because it is carved from a single cedar trunk: not for want of ambition, but because everything it has to say fits inside that one trunk. And running through this one is the Torrent — the mountain stream allowed to fall from top to bottom without anyone building a sluice into it.
The Tribe Tower is the narrow one. At 17.8 cm wide and 93.5 cm tall it takes less floor than most speaker stands, and Totem allows it 10 cm from the wall behind — so it belongs in the room where a conventional tower would become an argument. It reaches 30 Hz from two 4-inch drivers, which sounds unlikely until you know what they are: Torrent units, whose magnet design holds the voice coil in the field continuously and lets them run with no crossover components at all. The only filter in the speaker is a first-order one on the 1.3-inch textile dome. It is a 4-ohm load at 89 dB, and the machined aluminium decouplers underneath come fitted. Give it a hundred hours.
No filter in the bass path means no sluice in the stream: what you hear is the driver itself. A narrow pole, and the water comes out of it unhindered.
