To the peoples of the plains the bison was not a trophy but a providence: food, warmth, shelter — everything a tribe needed, carried in one animal that wears its strength calmly. You do not give a name like that to a loudspeaker built to impress; you give it to one built to carry.
The Monitor is where the Bison range starts: a 5.25-inch woofer on a three-inch voice coil and a laser-etched soft dome, crossed at 2.5 kHz with nothing more than a first-order filter, in a lock-mitred cabinet 33 cm tall — and it reaches down to 40 Hz. That is the Totem trick as we have known it since 1995: a small box that images like a much larger one and then refuses to sound like a box at all. At 8 ohms and 87 dB it is not fussy about amplification; 30 to 150 watts covers it. Give it stands, breathing space behind it, and 70 to 100 hours to settle.
It was voiced in Montreal by ear, not on a screen — and once it is up to temperature you hear why the bison carries its strength at rest.

the clarity and lack of color in their sound make them a set of speakers that many audiophiles should love having as part of their system.

Tight, quick bass handling, superb midrange definition and sparkling detail result in a sound that's always enjoyable and often eye-opening when weighed against the cabinet size and price tag.

What we take away from the experience is that the Canadian manufacturer has truly mastered the art of building small two-way bookshelf speakers that are intensely musical and thoroughly compact - easy to fit into a home and, above all, able to deliver life-sized sound.
